MMA / Downtown Showdown 12 / Minneapolis, MN

On Saturday, 01-26-13, I photographed my first Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Event. It was held at the Hyatt Regency in Minneapolis and was hosted by Sterling Entertainment Group and Driller Promotions. The name of the event was the “Downtown Showdown 12”

Just three weeks earlier I photographed my first Professional Boxing Event which was also held at the Hyatt Regency. Here is the link to the that BLOG POST.

This event had the added challenge of shooting through the cage. The first few fights I was experimenting with my ISO and shutter settings. I eventually ended back up to ISO 10,000 and a shutter speed of 1/1000 while the fighters were standing. When they were on the ground I used a shutter speed around 1/400 to 1/500. Otherwise I used the same camera settings that I mentioned in my boxing post.

I want to say "Thank you" to Jeremy Bjornberg with Sterling Entertainment Group for asking me if I wanted to shoot the event. It was a fun time...

To read more about the actual fights go the the Bleacher Report. Then to read more about each fight click on the “next” button above the image.

 Nope, I wasn't up there...

Yep, I was down around here :) but with the door closed. I also shot just around the corner from here, too. Actually while photographing from the floor I was able to move around more...
